Welcome to our biennial celebration of the original exhibition from which this show (and this Web site) takes it name: The Nocturnes. Installed at Gallery Sanchez, in San Francisco in 1991, that critically-acclaimed show brought together ten intrepid San Francisco Bay Area Night Photographers, to show 50-plus pieces, and was curated by our own Tim Baskerville! It is in the spirit of that original show - a spirit of discovery, experimentation, and mystery - that we initiated these biennial shows, and indeed the Web site itself!

Juror Brian Kelly is no stranger to the nocturne - he is probably best known for his magical depiction of the downtown cityscapes illuminated in his book Grand Rapids: Night After Night. Read more about this accomplished photographer here. Photographer, Gallery owner, and longtime friend of The Nocturnes, Kelly (recently seen at Photo San Francisco) was happy (once he got back home to Michigan) to act as Juror for The Nocturnes 2004, our latest online exhibit of Night Photography.
We hope you enjoy the show!

Also, be sure to visit NightTalk, the message board of The Nocturnes, and let us know what you thought of this exhibition.
