"Night News" - an occasional missive from the darkness
Vol.14 No.5
"Fortunately, art is a community effort - a small but select community living in a spiritualized world, endeavoring to interpret the wars and the solitudes of the flesh." - Allen Ginsberg

Here we are, winding down 4th Quarter on "#00000 Friday" and, as usual we've a number of items to bring to your attention!

We present the report (our 56th NightNews!) now - with a year-end review due in late December . . .

A 3-nite NPy Workshop is again being offered at RayKo Photo Center, November 29, December 6 and 13. A bit of a difference this time round - while the RayKo offerings are usually Urban NPy 'Shops - for this one, the first class falls very close to the Full "Frost" Moon, so we are going to take advantage of it and venture out of the Urban Milieu for some gentler, coastal landscape work. Hope to see you there!

Noted:

Our 25th online exhibit, The Nocturnes 2012 is now being readied for the Juror, with entries from such exotic locales as Malaysia, Switzerland, Bermuda, and Potrero Hill! Continuing a tradition of open-themed biennial exibits, these shows have always proved popular! Check out our EXHIBITS page for more details - the exhibit will run from December 1-31, 2012.

Also Noted:
Inside-Out: San Francisco’s Historic F-Line - an exhibition of 70 works including many of Tim Baskerville's classic black-and-white images of the interiors of the historic cars (INSIDE); color Night Photography by Kevin Sheridan of the cars "in action" on the F-Line (OUT) - plus many rare images from the SFMTA photo archives. Exhibit runs thru January 5, 2013, with a PhotoTalk with the artists on December 8th, 2-4pm at the Harvey Milk Photo Center, 50 Scott Street (atop the Sunset Streetcar Tunnel!) in San Francisco.

Further Noted:
Long-time friend of The Nocturnes, photographer Mark Citret attended our recent AlumNight event on November 17 (see images of Quarters 'A' by Tim below) showing some very beautiful b/w nocturnal vellum prints of sites in Italy - like the Fiat image appearing to the right. Mark would like all The Nocturnes to know about his upcoming show, a survey of 40 years of photographic work at Smith Andersen North in San Anselmo, opening on December 1 and running thru January 5, 2013. More details at Smith Anderson North Web site.

The Stage is Set, Mare Island

As the days grow shorter - and the nights longer - just remember: "Lets be careful out there . . . "
