Welcome to this abridged version of "Night News" - with your Guest
Editor, Susan. I work with Tim and Lance on the Web site, mostly with
marketing and promotion. Lots going on around here, lately, so we'll
jump right in. The regularly scheduled Newsletter for September should
arrive after the Labor Day holiday, with lots more news of events and
late developments.
First of all, some 'old' news - shortly after the last newsletter
(http://www.thenocturnes.com/nitenus3.htm) was sent out, Tim received a
full scholarship to the WEB 99 Development Conference in San Francisco.
where he was able to get lots of valuable info on current trends and
pointers for the upcoming re-design of The Nocturnes - look for lots of
changes and new features to be added to the Web site soon! Also, after
the last "Night News" was posted, Tim received a First Place Award in
the juried exhibition at the South Shore Art Center in Cohasset, MA (the
Festival on the Common, June 18-20).
There is a lot of activity currently going on 'exhibition-wise' with The
Nocturnes. Here is a brief 'Road Show' rundown:
Berkeley Art Center, Berkeley, CA, July 18-Aug 29
15th Annual National Juried Exhibition/TB rec'd Special Juror's Award
(Prize Money!)
Pembroke Arts Festival, Pembroke, MA, August 6-8
Annual Pembroke Arts Festival/LK rec'd Special Pembroke Photographer's
Award and Third Place Award (Prize Money!)
CAL Works, Sacramento, CA, August 20-Sept 6
Cal Expo/State Fair Fine Arts Exhibit/TB rec'd an Award of Merit (Prize
Money)
Millard Sheets Gallery, Los Angeles, CA, Sept 9-26
New Photography Exhibit, Los Angeles County Fair/TB rec'd First Place
Award in Fine Art (Prize Money)
Also, we are submitting the Web site to the CAL Works Web Site
Competition - we will keep you posted re: this in the next newsletter. A
bonus for the site comes as a result of the validation (in the
extreme) process that we went thru to get the site in shape for the
judging, it should make for a better, smoother operating site - so that
is good news!
Long awaited changes to the gallery section of the site take place in
late August. Work on the WorkSite section (where students' work is to be
shown) is to start after that.
Did you notice the article about Michael Kenna's latest ("New Work" at
Stephen Wirtz Gallery in SF) in the July/August issue of Artweek? If
not, most large public libraries should have it on file, or check
Artweek's Web site (http://www.artweek.com) for availability. If that
doesn't work and you're still interested, you can email us your snail
mail address and we will send you a photocopy (for research and
educational purposes only).
