Curriculum
This special introductory Night Photography Workshop will be held
on February 21, from 5:15pm to 10pm at locations on Mare Island's South End.
This workshop is for people who would like to learn how to better photograph
after dark, with either digital cameras or film, in industrial and 'mixed-use'
enivronments. Workshop participants will utilize existing artificial light
sources along with supplemental lighting. In the more developed areas
of the former shipyard, the exposures will be relatively short, mostly
illuminated by streetlight and ambient light.
Emphasis will be on evaluating existing lighting situations and exposing
accordingly. Transparency, b/w, color negative films, as well as digital
will be discussed and compared. This is an intensive workshop limited
to 15 participants who will be closely supervised on location.
Supplemental lighting possibilities will be discussed and demonstrated,
with an emphasis on "Light Painting" techniques, where appropriate. Students
provide their own equipment and should be familiar with basic photographic
techniques. A basic, 'low-tech' equipment and film list for digital and
film cameras, as well as a pre-workshop questionnaire, and meeting details
for the Workshop will be provided upon registration
Equipment
You will need, at minimum: a 35mm or digital SLR-type (newer 'mirrorless' OK) camera,
tripod, and a cable release or remote control to accomplish timed photo
exposures of 2 to 10 minutes or more in length. A penlight, 'countdown'
